Stuart Nelson is an independent business consultant, offering specialized expertise to the west coast seafood industry, and generalized services to other business sectors.
Stuart is the principal of Nelson Bros Fisheries Ltd, a management consulting firm operating out of Surrey, British Columbia. Nelson Bros is remembered as a major fishing company from the 1920s through the 1960s, when it operated fishing vessels and processing plants throughout the BC and Alaskan coasts.
The company’s sole focus is now consulting, and Stuart strives to represent the family name with a level of integrity and outstanding service that would make his late grandfather, Ritchie Nelson (co-founder of Nelson Bros), proud.
Since 1998 Stuart’s firm has completed over 130 assignments for a roster of clients encompassing the private sector, government agencies, First Nations, and environmental and non-profit organizations.
Stuart Nelson has spent much of his career in the west coast seafood industry, holding a succession of management positions with British Columbia Packers Limited, then forming his own consulting firm under the name Nelson Bros Fisheries Ltd (the Nelson Bros banner has been in the Nelson family for three generations).
With knowledge of the seafood industry that spans from the fishing grounds to the boardroom, Stuart provides clients with practical advice and assistance. With a generalized business consultant’s skill-set-including financial modeling & analysis, written presentation, and a knack for working with people ‐ he is able to translate the peculiarities of the fishing industry onto paper and into universal business terms.
He has completed a host of business plans, strategic plans, reviews of fishery management programs, and group facilitations for corporations, government agencies, First Nations, non‐profit societies, and environmental organizations both in British Columbia and in other fishery jurisdictions.
While Stuart has specialized expertise in the seafood business, the same analytical, presentation, and interpersonal skills that are so helpful in that realm are readily transferable to other industries and sectors. Stuart has worked with retail, food service, technology, resource, and sports & recreation clients.
